This may be someone most of you never heard of before but she someone special within the US Muslim community and particular among Latino Muslims.

Khadijah Rivera is one of the bonding forces behind Piedad, she's not just a social activist, community worker but is also a mother. And when she's done teaching at a local school in Tampa bay, she teaches English to Burmese immigrant children.

Khadijah says, "When you are helping the needy for food, clothing or shelter, then faith, does not matter, we are all children of God".

She was a perfect example of how to be both American and Muslim as well how Muslims can be a positive force within society. She will indeed be missed.

Sine Two - Tea Breaks

One of the best mixes I've heard all year. This is indeed within the top 10 best mixes on my blog. If you don't like this mix you're not a mixtape fan. Sorry no tracklisting but it contains mostly funky B Boy breaks, some Hip Hop joints from the 90's and even a song or two by Rage Against the Machine.

Add this to your collection!!!

Haroon Al Qahtani - Eye Foreign I

The beats within this mix are pretty impressive. I was seriously digging the throwback sound and I loved hearing Sam Kinison's voice again. Haroon never disappoints!! Check out his other mixes as well HERE

Eye Foreign I" is an hour long mix of 24 beats I have created during the past year and a half. All tracks in the mix are brand new, original, and created by me. They represent, at least I think, some of my best creations out of the near 100 compositions stored on my MPC's memory card. Although I would label it Hip-Hop, it could easily get categorized as Downtempo, Chill Out, or Trip-Hop. At any rate that doesn't really matter.

Hamza 21 - The Kickback Vol 2

Well it's here! Volume Two in the Kickback series.

Some of you may have noticed a change in the tracklisting I posted before. The original mix was well over 100 minutes but decided to reduce it down to 87 minutes. There are still some rough parts that could use some re-editing but all in all I'm done with this mix. Personally I like my mixes with some mistakes in them. It makes it sound more authentic..more human. More like a real mixtape was back in the day before the digital age.

Just as before in The Kickback:Volume 1 I didn't use any DVS or any other computer deejaying program. I beatmatched by ear using Audacity. Anyway here's my mix of "kickback" tune...enjoy.

J Period - Best Of Big Daddy Kane

What can be said about "the smooth operator" King Asiatic Nobody's Equal. A lyrical great and vocal giant Kane was and still is in the top 10 emcees of all time. If it wasn't for Rakim & KRS, I believe Kane would be named the greatest of all time.

With Rakim's disastrous long awaited Seventh Seal hitting the web this week (why Rakim? Why did you go hip POP?) this is just the thing you need to get the stench of that filth out of your ears.

Eardrumz - The Reassassination Of Jesse James

Is this the future of the producer mixtape? It could be and I hope so. There's just so many Common, Nas & Jay Z remixes one can listen to without never wanting to listen to Common, Nas Or Jay again. This concept of taking a movie score & audio clips and reworking them into some head nodding Hip Hop is a breath of fresh air within the producer mixtape field. Let's hope there are more on the way.

This mix is tight as hell. He’s taken the soundtrack by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis from that cowboy movie with Bread Peat and that hot chick from Weeds, chopped it up, thrown down some MPC beats, and laid in some vocal samples. Simple, ain’t it? But quite clever.

Sheen Brothers - Scumbag Funk Vol 1 & Vol 2

Honestly I wasn't feelin these mixes although they both had their moments. Those deep into funk would appreciate these mixes I suppose. Personally I feel some of joints were pretty lackluster but others may think otherwise. Decide for yourself.

Listen to Vol 1 HERE

Listen to Vol 2 HERE

"DJ extraordinaire Cosmo Baker (The Rub, NYC) and MC/Producer phenom 4th Pyramid (Toronto) jokingly came up with the concept of THE SHEEN BROS one balmy Manhattan evening: A duo of slicked-out sleazestars tuned into the greasy funk and drippy disco sounds that make girls lose control and guys feel like macks hit the stage in style to turn the party out. Unbeknownst to them, the two hit on a virtual party rocking monster machine that's no joke. With Cosmo on the ones and twos and Pyramid on the MPD, these two have smoothed out their own brand of sexy dance floor flavor, what they like to call Scumbag Funk, and the people want more. What can they say...it's a Sheen thing."

Jamie Nast - Idea Mapping

Mind mapping has been the rage within the business world for the last few years. I haven't deeply delved into the concept myself but I believe it should improve someone's retaining and learning ability. Here's a book on the concept for those looking for new ways to enhance their learning potential.

Read a sample online HERE

Designed to help you use more of your brainpower with less effort, an idea map is a colorful visual representation of a particular issue, problem, or idea—among other applications—on a single piece of paper. Our brains are much better at absorbing, processing, and remembering information presented in the form of an idea map as opposed to information presented in a multi-linear document. Because idea maps represent facts and issues visually—engaging both hemispheres of the brain—they foster more efficient learning, enable you to approach problems more creatively, and help you think more systematically.

Folger Blends - Pipomixes & Omega NYC

Made as tribute and continuation of J Rocc's Taster's Choice 4. Hip Hop blogger heavyweights Pipomixes & Omega NYC teamed up to produce a special mix of "slept on" joints.

So in the spirit of Taster's Choice 4, we decided to pick-up where J.Rocc left-off with our own mix of classics that many of us forgot even existed. This isn't a "best of" the golden era mix because many of the songs on the mix aren't from the golden era. Instead, it is more of a "best of" joints that you slept-on or forgot about mix.

Vin Roc - Reconstruction2

The sequel to Vin Roc's 1998 phenomenal mixtape "Reconstruction". Unlike that mixtape this mix doesn't have alot of "reconstruction" just mostly a straight mix of classic Hip Hop from the 90's. It's still a good mix though.

Cosmo Baker - PR Take Em To The Bridge

In late 2008 The Rub's Cosmo Baker made this so deserved tribute mix to Hip Hop great Pete Rock.

Listening to PR's production I don't see why "The Soul Brother" doesn't receive as much adulation Dilla gets. Pete Rock is the foundation Dilla built his sound on. Younger heads need to recognize.

Listen Online HERE

So yeah, Pete is arguably one of the most influential musicians of hip-hop and I have a sincere love for the music this guy has done, and the sound he singlehandedly created, so I made a mix featuring some of my favorite recordings and productions of his. I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I enjoyed making it.

DJ Dyllemma & DJ Sav One - Future Classics & Past Rarities

Who on the mixtape blogsophere hasn't heard of DJ Sav One? He's pretty well represented within the c-box and comments section of many blogs. Yet I haven't seen any mixes from him except now.

[it] has some slept on gems & tracks that were fairly new at the time the mix was made. It's a live mix, so enjoy it as is & appreciate some good music, scratching & mixing.

The Are - Manipulated Marauders

Houston producer The Are takes the original samples used on A Tribe Called Quest's second third album Midnight Marauders and reworks them into something that will leave many amazed.

I first heard of The Are last year via his production on the Niyat's Vector Prime mixtape (HERE). "The Walk" has to the one of 2008's best joints. He is pretty impressive when it comes to beats and Manipulated Maruaders will definite make you a fan of his work. Add this instrumental album to your collection and be sure stop by his blog for new remixes and beats: theare.wordpress.com

Reverend Cheng Kuan - The Sweet Dews of Ch'an

Although I'm not Buddhist and diasgree with many of it's philosophical teachings I have learned about from Buddhist philosophy and it has increased my spirituality. Learning and understanding other faith traditions expands your thought and forces you to clarify where you stand on issues. You may not always agree but examing other faiths will encourage one to think about things you probably wouldn't thought about before. In that spirit this short book on Ch'an (Zen) is nice jump start for those not aware of Zen Buddhist thought.

Ch’an or Zen is the outcome of meditation. There are two “right” or “highest” purposes of Ch’an. The first purpose is to achieve “Dhyana.” Dhyana is a combination of relaxation, concentration and calmness or tranquility. The second purpose is, using your very composed and tranquil mind, to observe clearly all the dharmas or phenomena externally and internally. As an outcome of Dhyana, you will be able to observe these phenomena very clearly because your “mental mirror” is very clear, for there are no more disturbances to veil it. Out of these observations will come Transcendental Wisdom, which in Sanskrit is called “Prajna.”

Melo D - Turntables

I posted this mix last year but the link went and a request was made for reup so I decided repost this classic mix by The Beat Junkies president Melo D. Thanks to SO.U.L & Rob for the links.

The CD is broken down into tracks with no real purpose other than to have titles really. It is just a mix CD, but being that it is a Beat Junkie release, the quality is superior to many. It features guests Babu and J Rocc, Curse and Sparky Arbuckle but mostly is Melo D's composition. Definitely a great bit of turntablism for the collectors out there.

DJ Books - Foxy Boogie

P
ersonally Foxy Brown is a decent enough emcee but she never really stood out as someone great in my opinion. Not like early female spitters like Roxanne Shante or Queen Latifah nor new heads to game like Sirah One or Kelley Mak. Foxy was always just good enough but not great but anyway for all my Foxy fans out there DJ Books drops this collection of Foxy joints on you.
